CONDUCTION COOLED CAPACITORS FIT MORE APPLICATIONS
REQUIRING HIGH CURRENT, HIGH VOLTAGE
Illinois Capacitor has expanded their lineup of their HC and LC Series Conduction Cooled Capacitors, to include new direct mounting options on the HC Series. These devices are a fit for resonant power circuitry having very high current demands. With the rugged appearance of mechanical components, they have ratings of up to 1,200 amps RMS and 1,100 VAC. The LC Series of capacitors have flat copper plates to allow safe handling the current and voltage in resonant power circuits. The HC Series are compact rectangular block types.
The new 2SM6 direct-mount option uses a through-hole design that is compatible with many current application configurations. Available in the HC1, HC2, HC3A and HC3B Series, the new mounting configuration provides the highest level of heat transfer and connectivity. It also eliminates the need for intermediate mounting hardware, allowing direct mounting to bus bars.
Depending on the capacitance, devices are compatible with resonant circuits ranging from 9 kHz to 1 MHz. Standard capacitance values range from 0.05 µF to 37µF. Operating temperature is -40°C to +85°C. In high-power RF applications, corona can be a problem within a capacitor. As a defense against this, special construction techniques are utilized to help minimize the potential for corona breakdown.
Applications include: induction heating, resonant power supplies, RF amplifiers, medical imaging systems, welding equipment and electric vehicle charging stations.
Illinois Capacitor’s Conduction Cooled Capacitors incorporate self-healing Polypropylene film construction. They are Halogen free, ROHS compliant and meet UL94V0 as flame retardant.

470 FARAD SUPER CAPACITORS OFFER LOW ESR, LOW COST
The newest series of super capacitors from Illinois Capacitor is the DGH Series, offering capacitance values up to 470 Farads. This series continues a supercapacitor trend of incremental improvements, while achieving lower costs. The DGH Series includes 23 different value/voltage combinations, ranging in capacitance from 0.5F (Farad) to 470 F, with voltage ratings from 2.7 to 5.5WVDC. ESR varies by part, but is notably lower than capacitors with similar storage capabilities. Operating temperature ranges from -40 to +65°C for extended life performance in countless applications.
Like other IC super capacitors, DGH supercaps provide engineers with interesting new design options. With their massive energy storage, they have the ability to provide instantaneous bursts of power to smooth power interruptions, supplement batteries or even be used in place of batteries in certain applications. DGH supercaps do not degrade with each cycle. At 2.7 volts, operating life is rated at 10 years with 500,000 cycles. Applications for these super capacitors include: energy harvesting, mechanical actuators, transportation power, smart electric meters, pulse battery pack alternatives, memory backup, battery/capacitor hybrids, UPS systems, emergency lighting, LED power, solar lighting or anywhere that significant energy storage is needed.
DGH Series capacitors are offered with radial wire leads or snap mounts. Case diameters and configurations vary, depending on values. The parts are also fully RoHS compliant. Prices start at about $0.20 for a 1 Farad at 2.7 Volt. Delivery: stock to 45 days for production quantities. Custom modules, with active or passive balancing, are also available, combining multiple capacitors for higher voltage or capacitance specifications.
ILLINOIS CAPACITOR INTRODUCES INDUSTRY’S FIRST ON-LINE CUSTOM CATALOG GENERATOR
As manufacturers have gradually phased out printed catalogs, replaced instead by parametric search tools and downloadable PDF data sheets, there has been an outcry for something more. With that in mind, Illinois Capacitor has developed an on-line tool that allows engineers to create their own customized PDF catalogs. A catalog can include just the product lines of interest, a product category or even all product lines. Once the selection is made, it takes just seconds to build the catalog. The catalog can be saved to a drive or printed by the user.
Unlike traditional printed catalogs, the custom built Illinois Capacitor catalogs are always up-to-date, as the data sheets are generated on the fly from the company’s product database. And each catalog page contains live links to unique, generated data sheets on each part number. According to company Vice President, Michael Shade, “on most sites, it is a tedious chore to select and print out a series of data sheets for multiple products. With our new catalog generator, it’s easy and takes just seconds.”

ILLINOIS CAPACITOR INC. ACQUIRED BY CORNELL DUBILIER MARKETING, INC.
Lincolnwood, IL – It was announced today that Illinois Capacitor Inc., and its affiliates have been acquired by Cornell Dubilier Marketing, Inc. This acquisition brings together two of the leading manufacturers of capacitors for the electronics marketplace. For the foreseeable future, Illinois Capacitor will operate as a separate subsidiary of Cornell Dubilier, and will continue to be headquartered in suburban Chicago. Its Asian headquarters will remain in Hong Kong.
The two companies have mostly complementary product lines, with some areas of overlap. Illinois Capacitor and its customers will benefit by an expansion of product sales and distribution resources, as well as enhanced engineering and manufacturing capabilities. Cornell Dubilier will gain product breadth with Illinois Capacitor’s extensive board-level product lines, which include aluminum electrolytic, polymer, film; and EDLC (super) capacitors and modules.

The MDCL Series film capacitors from Illinois Capacitor are available in a range of capacitance values from 50 to 1,500mF with high energy density and voltage ratings up to 1,600WVDC.
